This apartment materializes a long-held dream for an Australian client with a deep passion for Rio de Janeiro. The design’s vision was to transform an older property into a retreat that balances Carioca freshness with contemporary sophistication.

Strategic, targeted interventions in the floor plan optimized the spatial flow, including enlarging the guest bathroom and creating a multifunctional entrance hall. This space, defined by vertical timber sunshades—ensuring both privacy and ventilation—conceals a Murphy bed within a slatted panel. This allows the home office to quickly transition into an extra guest room.

The apartment’s atmosphere is defined by a neutral, sun-drenched palette, where the ice-toned micro-cement flooring serves as a canvas for the prominence of American Oak millwork. Elements with an industrial accent, such as the exposed concrete beam and the perforated metal sheet door in the service area, introduce modernity. These features harmonize perfectly with iconic designer pieces, such as the Tivoli armchair and the Mocho stool. The use of Calacatta Super White marble on the kitchen countertop adds a final layer of tactile and visual sophistication.
