Project: N.D. Apartment
Year: 2022
Area: 140 sq. m.
Location: Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Lead Architect: Marina Romeiro
The project began with a complete inversion of the original floor plan to emphasize social interaction and the breathtaking landscape that encompasses Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Christ the Redeemer. By relocating the social area to the upper floor, Estúdio Popa adapted the space to tell the residents’ new story.
On the second floor, integration takes center stage: the living and dining rooms merge seamlessly with the kitchen and the outdoor area. This was achieved by replacing the old window frames with a single, wide span that allows for total opening.
Bespoke millwork solutions—such as the slatted panel that conceals the powder room and the service area—ensure that domestic workflows do not interfere with the environment’s clean aesthetic. Meanwhile, the children’s bedroom, designed under the Montessori philosophy with adjustable furniture, demonstrates the care taken to create spaces that grow alongside their inhabitants.
