Project: Barra Apartment

Year: 2025

Area: 90 sq. m.

Location: Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Lead Architect: Marina Romeiro

This project marks a new chapter for architect Marina Romeiro and Rafael Cabral, who traded the bustling energy of Botafogo for a more spacious sanctuary in Barra da Tijuca. The central concept sought to translate the Scandinavian term hygge into a Carioca context, creating a home that prioritizes well-being, coziness, and a seamless connection with the lush greenery of the outdoors.

Spatial solutions focused on fluidity and multifunctionality to accommodate the couple’s dynamic routine. The living room floor was leveled and integrated with the balcony, which now features a functional countertop and a deep, comfortable sofa. In the kitchen, the expansion incorporated the former service quarters and gained a custom bi-fold door in metalwork and fluted glass.

A touch of personality emerges in the details: a colorful rug designed by Mira Studio and vibrant cement tiles in the bathrooms break the sobriety without overwhelming the eye. The furniture blends signature designer pieces, such as the Costela armchair and the Savoy table, with functional and timeless elements.
