The starting point for this project was a hidden gem found within the original property: the patterned hardwood parquet flooring in the social area, which became the soul of the design and guided all subsequent aesthetic decisions. The core concept sought to balance the family’s collection of antiques with a contemporary language, intentionally avoiding a “museum-like” aesthetic.
The spatial reconfiguration was extensive, tailored to the clients’ specific routines, including the need for a quiet workspace for psychoanalysis sessions. The kitchen was integrated into the social area by incorporating parts of the original hallway, gaining a central island that has become the heart of daily meals.
In the private wing, smart bespoke millwork serves as a partition between the bedrooms, optimizing every inch and allowing the primary suite to feature a private walk-in closet. Solutions such as acoustic window treatments ensure that, despite being on the first floor of a bustling neighborhood, the interior remains an oasis of tranquility and focus.
Louis XV-style furniture, restored with new upholstery, establishes a dialogue with iconic modern design pieces, such as the Saarinen table, set against the striking original wood flooring. In the kitchen, tiles reminiscent of traditional cement pavers evoke a nostalgic “grandma’s house” feel, while in the suite, deep green tones invite rest and relaxation.
