Project: R.A. Apartment
Year: 2021
Area: 70 sq. m.
Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Lead Architects: Marina Romeiro and Mariana Gomes
This project emerged from a young family’s desire to embrace the dynamic energy of the city center without sacrificing a warm, welcoming retreat. The renovation prompted a complete reconfiguration of the floor plan, prioritizing family interaction by seamlessly integrating the kitchen into the living area.
A striking spatial solution was the creation of the primary suite, achieved by merging existing bathrooms and utilizing custom bespoke millwork as a clever partition between the bedrooms.
The apartment establishes a vibrant dialogue between colors and textures. Here, a deep blue and a remarkably charismatic, spirited orange meet the original hardwood parquet flooring, beautifully uncovered during the demolition phase.
In the kitchen, colorful geometric floor tiles introduce a contemporary and playful rhythm, while the use of materials such as microcement and Brazilian Freijó wood adds layers of natural warmth and organic texture.
Every detail—from the playful chalkboard wall for family notes to the seamless connection fostered by the open countertops—was thoughtfully designed to cultivate a home where life unfolds with effortless lightness.
